Overview
Solar Eclipse – April 8th, 2024
The Party starts at 1:30 pm. The partial eclipse begins at 2:12 pm. The maximum eclipse is at 3:26 pm.
Our lifts will not be open for foot-passenger scenic skyrides. Skiers and riders are not permitted to stay on the mountain after we close.
Complimentary eclipse glasses hand-out will begin at 1:30 pm on the Sundeck and will be available as supplies last.
Watch this once-in-a-lifetime astronomical event and party on the sundeck in the Base Area for free! Join us for a Live DJ, festivities as the moon passes between the earth and the sun. Free admission! Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon album will play in the air as this monumental astrological event occurs. Complimentary eclipse glasses will be provided as supplies last.
Gore Mountain is right on the edge of the path of totality, and the eclipse will result in 99%. It’s worth noting that for those keen on Eclipse chasing, being directly on the path can make a big difference.
Lift Ticket Special for Skiing & Riding:
Join us for $40 Skiing and snowboarding lift tickets. Free for 2023-24 & 2024-25 Passholders.
-Due to a decrease in light and visibility during this event, we plan to close our ski lifts at 2 pm for the day. The Straight Brook & High Peaks Quad will close at 1:30pm. The Northside & Burnt Ridge will close 1:45pm.
–Our lifts will not be open for foot-passenger scenic skyrides. Skiers and riders cannot stay on the mountain after we close. No Uphill or Hiking is permitted.
EYE SAFETY:
Complimentary eclipse glasses will be provided as supplies last.
- Remember: Looking directly at the eclipse without proper eye protection is never safe.
- Sunglasses are NOT SAFE for viewing.
- Viewing any part of the bright sun through a camera lens, binoculars, or a telescope without a special-purpose solar filter secured over the front of the optics will instantly cause severe eye injury.
OTHER ITEMS/SAFETY NOTES
- Uphill travel is prohibited.
- All trails, the Saddle Lodge and Straight Brook Lodge, and the Fairview deck on top of the Gondola unloading area will be swept thoroughly by Ski Patrol after closing at 2pm. For safety reasons, no sheltering-in-place will be allowed.
- No pets will be allowed.
- Guests should keep in mind that temperatures can drop as much as 15 degrees in totality.
- Appropriate winter footwear is strongly recommended.
Schedule & Operational Details
SCHEDULE:
1:30pm: Party on the Sundeck starts with music and solar glasses distribution.
1:30pm: The Straight Brook & High Peaks Quad will close.
1:45pm: The Northside & Burnt Ridge will close
2:00pm: All Lifts are closed. All skiers & riders must be off the mountain and trails.
2:12 pm: The partial eclipse starts.
2:43pm: Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon Starts playing by DJ B-Train.
3:26 pm: The maximum eclipse (99% coverage).
4:00pm: Event over.
PARKING
We expect a large volume of traffic at the mountain on eclipse day which will result in busy parking areas. Parking will be free on a first-come first-serve basis. If coming with a group, we strongly encourage carpooling.
Non-skiing season passholders and anyone who purchased a $40 lift ticket can access the eclipse via the sundeck in the Base Area.
LIFT OPERATIONS
Our usual hours of operation have been adjusted for Monday, April 8th.
- All scheduled lifts will open at their usual time.
- 2:00pm- All mountain lifts close for skiing.

TRAFFIC
- Plan for traffic leaving Gore after the eclipse, make sure to fill your gas tank prior to arriving at Gore Mountain. There could be significant delays.
CELL SIGNAL
- Be prepared for interruptions in cell phone service due to dead zones and increased cell usage in the area. Have a backup communications plan with your party.
