There’s just something about spring skiing & riding! The sunny skies, soft snow, and fine weather make us smile ear to ear. Spring is such an interesting and unique time on the mountain – from day to day and hour to hour, the trails change so rapidly. It’s important to watch for thin cover and changing snow conditions. Even with the rapid change, springtime skiing and riding is still one of our favorite times to get out on the mountain!
The best part about spring is you can use your 2022-2023 Season Pass to ski the rest of this season for free! For just a quarter of your pass price, you can start shredding now with our free payment plan.
A typical spring day starts with fast and firm corduroy with loose and frozen granular, then softens to loose granular and “mashed potatoes” in the late afternoon, then it becomes even wetter and corn-like. (Yes, you may even be doing some water skiing). A versatile all-mountain ski or snowboard is the best choice to tackle the variable conditions. Bring along some rub-on warm wax for a better glide or try a wax made for corn snow. Talk to our tune and repair shop about which wax to try if you’re unsure.

Rise and shine. There’s corduroy to catch before the sun starts to soften the snow; take a few laps down the North Side or High Peaks- these areas stay fast and firm into the late morning.

Springtime means bumps! Show off what you can do on our ungroomed terrain- want to improve your skills? Book a lesson. Our privates and semi-privates can focus around a particular technique or skill. Once the snow is nice and soft, it’s time to head to the steeps. Start with Lies and get down with the mogul-filled corn harvest. Experts can head to The Rumor for an even steeper challenge if you feel ready.

Ditch those winter jackets as the sun comes out, wear some waterproof pants or short and maybe a Hawaiian shirt. We always suggest wearing a helmet, but you swap the goggles for a pair of shades. Bring your layers, too, because the weather can change throughout the day. Paradise doesn’t have to be tropical but on these spring days, it sure can feel like you’re at the beach- stay hydrated, apply sunscreen throughout the day, and don’t forget eye protection.

Throw down in the parks, the hero snow is friendly and forgiving. It’s a great time to go slow and nail the technique. For those new to snow sports, it’s a great time to learn. The snow is soft, slow, and easy to learn on. The stress-free, sunny weather makes any self-proclaimed “non-winter person” happy to be outside.

Now’s a great time to rest those weary legs so dine, drink and mingle with other hungry skiers and riders. Catch lunch outside on one of our many sunny patios and decks. Bring some food up to the Straight Brook Lodge to squeeze in as many summit laps as possible, or grab something from the Open Pit Grille. You can also sit out on our Tannery Deck picnic tables and watch skiers and riders rip it up slopeside.
As the warmer weather hits, Gore has some fun events planned like Maple Day on March 26th. Sugarmakers across the Northeast are preparing for the spring thaw when the sap within sugar maple trees begins to flow. Discover this sweet Adirondack tradition with an informative maple sugaring display, tons of sticky-sweet maple syrup treats, and a small market in the base area featuring local vendors. Celebrate spring skiing and riding with Straight Brook Saturday! Break out your best 80s gear and see how many laps you can get off the Straight Brook Quad. Complete ten laps or more by 2pm, and you’ll be entered to win fabulous prizes like a pair of skis, Smith sunglasses, goggles, gloves, and more. Also, an award for the best costume is up for grabs!

When we think about après-ski, we think of it with a springtime vibe! Chill on the sundeck or say hi to tailgaters in the parking lot. Don’t be shy, make some friends by telling stories about your fantastic day on the slopes. The fun doesn’t stop there: head down to one of our many dining partners in downtown North Creek or the surrounding area to keep the party going!
We plan on keeping the lifts spinning as long as we can, so cherish these last days of the season. We are already so excited to do it all again with you so don’t forget to renew your seasons pass.
